Dominion recently launched a NEW Green Power Program. As of January 1, our Virginia customers can support the production and development of renewable energy for as little as $2 a month. Or, sign up for 100 percent green power for one year and prevent almost as much greenhouse gas emissions as removing a car and a half from the road for a year. Choosing green power means you support development of new renewable energy facilities, invest in the green power industry, and are helping to expand America's energy resources.
For more information on what is green power and how to purchase it in any state, check out the U.S. Department of Energy's Web site.

How about a free installed smart meter as an incentive to sign up?
;-)
Is Dominion going to let GOOGLE beat them to the smart meter punch?

Imagine how hard it would be to stick to a budget in a store with no prices. Well, that's pretty much how we buy electricity today. Your utility company sends you a bill at the end of the month with very few details. Most people don't know how much electricity their appliances use, where in the house they are wasting electricity, or how much the bill might go up during different seasons. But in a world where everyone had a detailed understanding of their home energy use, we could find all sorts of ways to save energy and lower electricity bills."
......
In addition to policy advocacy, we're building consumer tools, too. Over the last several months, our engineers have developed a software tool called Google PowerMeter, which will show consumers their home energy information almost in real time, right on their computer. Google PowerMeter is not yet available to the public since we're testing it out with Googlers first. But we're building partnerships with utilities and independent device manufacturers to gradually roll this out in pilot programs. Once we've had a chance to kick the tires, we'll make the tool more widely available.

Hi Larry,
Dominion has been investigating Smart Grid technology for some time and believes it could lead to significant energy and environmental savings and many other customer benefits as well.
You can read more about this at www.dom.com/news/elec2008/pr0619.jsp
We are currently in the process of testing various applications of smart meters with a plan to begin a much wider deployment once the tests successfully demonstrate the technology and the Virginia State Corporation Commission has reviewed and approved the plan. We will be writing more about this exciting technology in the future.
Stay tuned!

yes.. I know that ya'll are - and your answer is a bit tantalizing...!!
I just can't think of a better thing for ya'll to do in terms of low-hanging energy conservation fruit....
The technology to provide this level of data is fast maturing and the electric utilities are in the best position to leverage it...
Why not offer the installation of wind or solar power to homeowners with a plan that any excess power would be returned to the power ocmpany for free. The cost of installing these systems is why there is not a market for the devices, except for those with a large capital to expend up front.
I really appreciate for your green power program.Going green is necessary from environment as well as stable ecology point of view.
I would like to share energy conservation tips and ideas for better tomorrow.
Thanks for the information.
