Change your furnace filters every month. This is the number one reason for furnace breakdowns. Inspect heating and cooling equipment annually, or as recommended by the manufacturer. Have a professional check and clean furnaces once a year.

My easy trick to remember to change filter is when I pay my mortgage payment. :) My monthly chores of when I receive mortagage is to pay association dues and change filter.
It would be extremely good to have a Dominion person just going from house to house with an infrared camera to show leaking spots in the house envelope. It's especially important with the energy credits available now. What a great community service project and help to avoid building power plants.
