Dominion received Virginia State Corporation Commission approval in late March to offer 5 energy efficiency and demand-reduction programs to help our customers gain better control of their energy usage.
These programs will benefit our customers by helping manage energy usage and costs while also addressing Virginia’s growing energy needs.
The programs that are available help both home and business customers include:
Home
- Lighting Program: Receive an instant discount on the purchase of energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs.
- Smart Cooling Rewards: Initially offered in Charlottesville,VA, program participants receive an incentive payment for allowing Dominion to cycle their air-conditioning on and off for short periods during times of high energy demand.
- Home Energy Improvement: Income-qualifying households will receive an energy audit and energy-efficiency improvements.
- HVAC Rewards: Earn a rebate when your business upgrades their HVAC system to a higher efficient system.
- Lighting Rewards: Earn a rebate when your business retrofits existing inefficient lighting with more energy-efficient lighting.

I have purchased a new house and need professional advice on how to save energy. I have completed all the possible energy saving projects on my present house. Low E double paned windows, new siding with complete house wrap, tankless water heater, upgraded attic insulation, crawl space insulation and vapor barrier. Slate roof prevented installation of solar heaters. New house has Solar Domestic Water heating. Indoor Exercise pool has solar water heating but that is the extent of energy saving devices. I would be interested in a PV Project if Dominion Power is sponsoring one. I have a correct pitch, southern facing roof, perfect for a PV array. Good press for Dominion Power and savings for our family.
Ed, thank you for your inquiry. It sounds like you have taken many steps to use the highest efficiency level on many of your appliances. One place to start is to evaluate each appliances energy usage. You mention a tankless water heater as well as solar water heating. We offer an online energy calculator which helps pin point each appliance usage. Knowing how much each appliance consumes, will help identify areas of the home that can see the most savings.
Since we have led into the summer months, make sure your home is sealed up properly. Having cool conditioned air escape outdoors is a waste of energy. Since the days are longer, remember to use natural lighting. If you haven’t switched over to Compact Fluorescent Lights, now may be the time. Dominion offers a rebate in our VA service territory at select retailers. CFL’s don’t emit as much heat as incandescent bulbs.
Dominion continues to evaluate viable technology solutions like solar panels. We currently do not offer a customer incentive program for this type of energy.
