Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Spring is in the air. It's the time of the year you enjoy hotdogs, peanuts, and Cracker Jacks. The time of the year you hear the National Anthem followed by the familiar phrase “Play Ball!”

I’m talking about Opening Day at Baseball Stadiums around the country. In fact, Richmond's own Flying Squirrels open their home schedule tomorrow!

There is a new trend in many baseball leagues – it seems the new color is green. In the news last week, Target Field, home to the Minnesota Twin’s, was the 2nd stadium to earn the green building seal and earn LEED certification. Nationals Park, home to the Washington National’s was the nation’s “first major professional stadium to become LEED Silver Certified by the U.S. Green Building Council”.

These parks are implementing simple measure that add up; like energy efficient lighting, green roofs, drought resistant shrubbery so that irrigation systems don’t have be installed, installing low flow water and restroom facilities and being located near public transportation locations.

LEED was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council which provides a framework for incorporating green building designs into building infrastructure.

Submit Taxes Online

It is that time of year when we like to remind you of savings you can see on your taxes for energy efficient investments.

When sitting down at the table this year to organize your tax forms, consider sitting down at the computer to retrieve your tax forms online.

In 2009, 95 million people filed their taxes electronically. The benefit to doing so is that it is simpler and faster which means quick confirmation and fast refund checks!

If you are interested in learning more about the e-file tax system, you can read more on the IRS site.
