Gearing up for Summer: Energy Savings Video

This video blog post needs no introduction, it’s one of our most popular videos (here’s our number one) where former blogger Bob Fulton takes less than 4 minutes to discuss summertime no cost and low cost energy saving tips for the home, most tips are transferable for the winter, too.

Now is a great time to get out and make a weekend energy conservation project list; it’s not too hot, it’s not too cold, and your house will be ready for the dog days of summer (and you won’t sweat as much in the attic now as you would in August!).

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the [conservation] show.

At work and can’t watch the video? Click the link for our text version of many of Bob’s summer tips.

How can I receive the AMR readings real time so I can monitor the amount of power my home is using, and work on ways to cut down?

Utilizing what is already in place would be a lot more green (and accurate) than purchasing an aftermarket kit.

This is a great entry with lots of ideas on how to save energy which anyone can do. You can also replace old light fixtures with Energy Star approved light fixtures which can save the average household $65 a year.

I have saved heaps of money on electricity by just reducing my heating usage and also turning off lights when I leave the room.

Thank you for your inquiry. We’re familiar with other resources that make it possible for our customers to see their daily energy usage which empowers energy conservation measures. We are exploring it’s possibilities and capabilities as we continue to install smart meters and evaluate the technology.

Dominion does intend to provide meter and energy information in our self-service, online portal, Manage Your Account. We are currently focused on the capture the meter data and a way to visually present that for both consumer and bill usage.

As you mention, there are aftermarket products available now for those that are interested in monitoring their energy usage, you can use the Google PowerMeter with the TED device, or you could go a number of other routes, including the OWL Energy Monitor or the Blueline PowerCost Monitor.

Thousands of various students want to have a writing talent as you have got. Because some dissertation writing service checks the writing skills choosing the thesis writers.

This information was very helpful. My shades are drawn, the ceiling fan is going, appliances unplugged, and the thermostat is at 78. Do you have other recommendations for renters? The apartment I'm in is not very well insulated and it's on the top floor of a south facing building.
